What actually differs
ChatGPT is a general assistant. Give it your CV and an offer, and it can write a strong draft. But a general chat has no built-in step that checks every sentence against your CV. If a tool you never used or a figure you never reached slips in, you are the one who has to notice it. That is how general chat works, and it is not a claim about how often it happens.
MaxCV splits the job into fixed steps. It breaks the offer into individual requirements, looks for evidence of each in your CV, writes the tailored version, then verifies the new text: risky additions are removed automatically, softer ones go to you for review. No check is perfect, so the final decision stays with you, change by change.
Verdict
If you apply rarely, enjoy working with prompts and read every line, ChatGPT can be enough, especially if you already pay for it. If you send many applications, MaxCV saves you rebuilding the process each time: a requirement-by-requirement score, verification, per-change approval, a ready PDF and an interview cheat sheet, with no subscription.
When to choose ChatGPT
Choose ChatGPT for brainstorming, first drafts and anything beyond the application itself, or if you already pay for it and are happy to check the output yourself. The two also work well together: ChatGPT for general writing, MaxCV for the CV and the letter.
